On March 8, 2010 there was a holding of the first General Assembly of the IREG–Observatory on Academic Ranking and Excellence. The new global organization was founded in October 2009, the aim of which is the improvement of the quality of national and international rankings.
The President of IREG, Doctor Ian Sadlak summed up the results on the consideration of criteria for conducting the audit of rankings on the compliance with the Berlin principles. The General Assembly accepted four new members:
- the Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan - HEEACT (Taiwan);
- the British Company Quacquareli Symonds - QS (UK), which conducts rankings of universities;
- Lomonosov Moscow State University (Russia);
- l'Observatoir des Science et des Techniques - OST (France).
